Summer football camp invites local coaches

DAVAO CITY (PIA)- The 1st Summer Football Camp of the SOS Children’s Village Davao is inviting local football coaches to participate and learn from the world-class football training methods to be implemented during the camp.

The camp will be held with the cooperation of the Azkals Global Football School put up by Philippine Azkals Football team manager Dan Palami.  About 100 kids will be trained by five foreign coaches who are currently playing playing for commercial teams in the country’s only semi-professional league the UFL or United Football League.

There will be 50 coaching slots that will be available during the football summer camp which will run from May 21 to May 27 at the SOS Children Village Football Ground in Davao City.

Leo Silva Fund Development Coordinator of the SOS Children’s Village said that the coaches will join the coaching huddle where the Azkal trainors will orient them about the training to be done. The coaches would then observe the mechanics of the football training and where they can share it when they go back to their teams.

During the coaches huddle the trainors will also answer all the queries that the coaches would be asking.

The last day of the camp would also have a hydrotherapy session for the kids and also the coaches, Silva says. “The coaches can benefit from the world-class football training that they will observe from these foreign coaches.” Silva said. Fees for coaches are pegged at P1000 inclusive of top jersey and a certificate.

Meanwhile the main football summer camp will feature 100 kids ages 7  to 15 years old. Silva said that half of the kids are paying participants which are called football friends while 50 kids are non-paying participants coming from the SOS Children’s Village, Tambayan, Black Knights, Anawim and other children care centers.

The scheme  allows a the football friend (paying participant) to register for himself and adopt  a non-paying participant ( the football buddy) thus good values aside from just football will be imparted during the Summer Football Camp.

The SOS Children’s Village is also calling kind-hearted people to sponsor some of the snacks for the non-paying participants during the week-long event.

Interested persons who wanted to join the coaches huddle or donate snacks and food they can call the SOS Children’s Village Office at (082) 226 3710  and look for Leo Silva or Noel Tanucan.  (PIA 11/RG Alama)
