Private sector support boosts convergence program

Davao del Norte – The convergence initiative of the province provided an opportunity for Capitol to engage the private sector in bringing essential services to distant and depressed communities.

Governor Rodolfo P. Del Rosario said the support of the private sector has contributed a lot in the growing success of the Davao del Norte Convergence for Peace and Development.

The governor has embarked on innovative ways to help the provincial government stretch its resources to address the basic needs of the people, through the public-private partnership component of his P.E.O.P.L.E agenda.

He was happy that a number of private individuals and companies have taken up the challenge to lend a hand to the development undertakings of the province in the true spirit of corporate social responsibility.

Del Rosario lauded the support of a handful of private medical practitioners and other professionals who have offered their services during the medical and social missions held regularly on Fridays.

The governor further praised the bigheartedness of the Planters Products, Inc. (PPI), for donating 250 bags of hybrid yellow corn seeds that are now being distributed in outreach activities.

The Makati-based agri-chemical company gave the seeds as part of its corporate social responsibility, through the efforts of former Samal Vice Mayor Orly Amit.

Del Rosario led the turn over of 25 bags of the corn seeds to farmer-recipients at the 12th convergence mission in Pinamuno, San Isidro town last May 25, 2012.

Provincial Agriculturist Dominador Encarnacion, Jr. said 50 bags of the corn seeds from PPI were already handed out to farmers at the recent outreaches in Mambing, New Corella and Magwawa, Sto. Tomas, while the remaining bags will be distributed in the coming convergence missions.

He also commended the consistency of the members of the Progressive Gays and Lesbians Association of Davao del Norte (Pro-GLAD) in offering their free hairstyling services during the outreaches.

Last year, Cimem Consumer Distributor, a business firm from Tagum City also donated 10 boxes of Energen cereal drink that were distributed at the outreach in Binancian, Asuncion. (Noel Baguio/PIO DavNor)
