Gov. RDR welcomes PNoy's expanded GIP

TAGUM CITY May 8- Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario has lauded the Aquino administration for implementing the Expanded Government Internship Program (GIP).

The Governor said the summer job program is essential to further stimulate the economy, as it is also an auspicious pump-priming activity for the youth sector.

Some 636 slots were allotted to Davao del Norte under the GIP, which intends to provide opportunity for in-school and out-of-school youths, as well as, unemployed college or vocational graduates to be employed.

Gov. del Rosario said the program is a big boost to the provincial government’s thrust of broadening the employment and livelihood opportunities of the people, especially through his development agenda P.E.O.P.L.E.

Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Arlene Semblante said the various local government units in the province have an allocation of 50 interns each, except for Tagum City that has 70 slots.

She added the internship is expected to start on the middle of May 2012, when the hired interns will receive a daily wage of P291 for 52 working days.

The hired applicants, preferably between 18 to 30 years old, will assist in the implementation of the numerous programs and projects of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the province.

The Aquino government has earmarked P1.3 billion to hire some 90,865 youths nationwide under the expanded GIP program, in its efforts to strengthen youth participation in nation building, to expose them to public service, as well as to train them on life skills. (Noel Baguio/DavNor PIO)
