DA extends Comval P86M agri interventions

NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley, May 17 (PIA) – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has given the province of Compostela Valley P85.6 million worth of agriculture interventions for the last two years since 2010.

Provincial Agriculturist Rolando Simene has revealed that these DA interventions are given in the form of Production Support Services, Extension and Training Services,  Research and Techno Demo,  Agri-infra Support Services, and Marketing and Agri-business Support Services.

These services are grouped under the rice, corn and the high-value commercial crops programs bannered by the national government under DA.

Under the rice program, DA allocated the province more than P23.7 million rolled into various projects for the year 2010 to 2011.

Among the agriculture provisions were seeds and farm inputs, training and farm festivals,  and agri-infra services  such as mechanical dryers,  drying pavements, farm tractors and rehabilitation  of farm-to-market roads.

For this year, DA extended more than P23.6 million worth of agriculture interventions which include seeds and farm inputs, agri-infra services such as mechanical dryers, drying pavements, harvester and warehouse construction.

Under the Corn Program, more than P6 million  has been rolled out by DA to Compostela Valley as agriculture production support in terms of seeds, training or farmers field school, and for provision of farm tractors,  grain center, corn sheller and corn mill.

DA allocates P2.8 million more for the province to purchase farm tractor and other agri-infra services.

For HVCC Program, DA extends to the province another P29.2 million for vegetable seeds and farm inputs, techno demo and FFS, agri-services particularly tramline and agri-water system, and agri-water system.

Aside from the P85.6 million, the DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in March this year, turned over two patrol boats worth P3.9 million to the municipalities of Maco and Pantukan to strengthen efforts to protect marine resources and municipal waters.

DA-BFAR also dispersed P1.8 million worth of Tilapia and Bangus fingerlings from 2011 up to the first quarter of 2012.

In line with this extensive agriculture assistance for Compostela Valley Province, Simene projected that the construction of farm-to-market roads in Langgawisan,  Maragusan and Sto. Nino in Laak Municipality would make into full use the 6,000 hectares of potential areas for upland rice production, corn and high value crops.

On the other hand, DA Secretary Proceso Alcala during his consultation with farmers and fisher-folks of Compostela Valley handed over to the provincial government additional agriculture production support.

Among the certificates of ownership and management that he handed over to  Provincial Governor Arturo T. Uy included  the 20 units of knapsack sprayer, 3,000 assexually propagated fruit seedlings, three units of power tiller, 1 unit of 4-wheeled  drive tractor,  1 unit of flat-bed dryer system, 5 heads of carabull.

He also handed over certification of commitments to rehabilitate irrigation systems, construct a multi-purpose dryer, and implement MRDP projects.  (PIA-11/Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)
