Davao City hosts 5,000 delegates to Kids for Christ’s 15th International Kids Village


DAVAO CITY, (May 14) -- About 5,000 Kids for Christ (KFC) with their parents and coordinators from all over the country and foreign countries attended the 15th KFC International Kids Village (IKV). Foreign delegates came from Malaysia, Bahrain and Republic of Seychelles.

The 15th International Kids Village (IKV) of Couples for Christ – Kids for Christ (KFC) was successfully held on May 4 to 6, 2012 at Ateneo de Davao University, Matina Campus, Davao City.  

“MOVE … kids proclaiming the greatness of the Lord” was the theme for the 15th IKV, inspired by the CFC theme for 2012 from the bible verse Luke 1:46 “ My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my soul rejoices in God my Savior.”  

The holding of IKV annually is part of the KFC major activities aligned with its vision/mission “Bringing kids to the Lord and building a bright new world”.
Archbishop Fernando Capalla and Auxilliary Bishop George Rimando concelebrated the Holy Mass on the first day.

In his homily,  Archbishop Capalla told the delegates to “…look at the beauty of every individual regardless of color… talk to Jesus and listen to Him, and only in silence we can hear Jesus, and when we see beautiful things around us that is when our heart is with Jesus…”.   The 15th IKV started with Opening Kids Praise, where kids joyfully worshipped God though songs and action dance. The kids also participated in the different sports clinic (Basketball, Volleyball and Soccer).

At the Opening Night, in behalf of  CFC Davao City community, Rito Opao welcomed the delegates to Davao City. Councilor Marissa Abella read the Message  of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, to the delight and amazement of the 15th IKV delegates also sent a local dance troupe to perform and showcase Davao City hospitality. KFC International Coordinator Nic Escalona, formally opened the 15th IKV.

This was followed by Session 1: WE HAVE A GREAT GOD, where the children were motivated to experience God’s greatness and to live their lives joyfully, and that even if they are still young, God already wants them to experience His greatness through their Family, Friends  and KFC community. The MOVE Praise Parade Competition followed with 13 entries representing the different regions all over the Philippines.

Fr. Leif Simbajon, who happens to be a former member of Youth for Christ of Island Garden City of Samal celebrated  the Holy Mass on the second day This was followed by Morning Kids Praise, creative competitions on Show Choir, Band, Dance Showdown, Mother and Daughter Showdown, Duet Singing, Rap, Family Duet and Father and Son Basketball Shootout. Simultaneously held with the creative competitions were the KFC Leadership Workshops (E-Watch – Social Media; Kids Lead – Leadership in School; Kids Speak – Public Speaking); Skills Workshop ( Capture JC – Photography; Reel Me – Video Shoot and Editing; Pastel Drawing; Clay Molding; Journalism; Jesus Chronicle – Newspaper Writing; KFC-On-Stage – Singing, Dancing and Acting).

The parents and coordinators of the KFC delegates also had their Parents’ Forum at Matina Town Square, tackling the topics on : Theology of the Body for Parents and Bringing Families to the Mission. As part of the IKV tradition, in the late afternoon of the second day, the Davao Central 911 provided a fire truck for the fire hose bath of the delegates, where kids gleefully took their shower to fight off the heat of the day.

In the evening, all delegates were gathered for Kids Praise and another teaching or Session 2: MOVE BY GOD, FOR GOD AND WITH GOD through a stage play, that reminded the kids to always ask the intercession of Mama Mary and for them to rely on Jesus to MOVE – By God, For God and With God. After the play, the Champion Night took place, where the champions of the creative competitions performed.

Fr. Stephen Cuyos of the Missionary of the Sacred Heart, celebrated the Sunday Holy Mass on the third day.  In his homily, Fr. Cuyos expressed the awesomeness of his experience with KFC, and told the delegates of the 15th IKV that “…the future of the Church is bright with KFC”.

After the Holy Mass were the Opening Kids Praise and Session 3: LET’S MOVE WITH GOD, where the kids were reminded that kids as they are, they can let Jesus MOVE their lives, and proclaim His greatness by being generous, diligent and obedient. The Closing Kids Praise followed and the awarding the trophies to the winners of the creative competitions and the announcement of the Champion of Move Praise Parade coveted by Southeastern Mindanao KFC represented by Davao City KFC.

In closing, the 15th IKV, KFC International Coordinator Nic Escalona expressed his gratitude to all the service team of the conference, particularly the CFC Davao City community; and announced that the 16th IKV will be in Sydney, Australia on April 19-21, 2013.
