Island Garden City of Samal, December 18, 2014 - As the City Government of Island Garden
City of Samal pursues international tourism networks, City Investment &
Tourism Officer Jennifer Dagohoy Cariaga,
Davao del Norte Provincial Tourism Council Chairperson Araceli Lanoy Ayuste and Samal Island
Tourism Council Board of Director Jeanne April C. Kroell promoted Samal
Islands and its many attractions at the annual World Travel Market, the leading
and biggest global tourism sales event.
Samal Island is the sole area that was positioned as the key
destination by Davao Region in this world’s biggest tourism fair to launch a
global campaign for tourism promotions in the 300 sq.m Philippine Pavilion.
Thus, this opened big opportunities to present Island Garden City of Samal and
its attractions, activities, tour packages, and beach resort facilities to more
than 50,000 foreign guests not only from Europe, but from all over the world.
The delegation of Samal Island prepared promotional materials
such as brochures and visual presentation that were used during the
business-to-business sitting with international tour operators during the 3-day
exhibit.
“This is the first time that a local government unit (LGU) from
Davao del Norte participates in WTM. We are glad at getting our LGU essentially
going out and turning out to be more marketing-oriented in promoting not just
to the local market but more importantly to the international stage as well” ,
IGaCoS Investment and Tourism Officer Jennifer Cariaga said.
The City Investment and Tourism Office of IGaCoS projects
foreign visitors to increase by 20% to about 15,000 this year and the current
international arrivals to double around 30,000 in the coming year.
Cariaga added that by now Samal Island hit something like
600,000 domestic travelers and they are now pushing and eyeing to strike as
much as 1 Million domestic and foreign travelers in 2016. (JB CITO)
