Anti-Trafficking advocates join March for Freedom



DAVAO CITY, Dec. 12 (PIA) The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) XI Network has officially ended the month-long celebration of the Human Trafficking Awareness Month with the theme “Pagmatngon, Pagpakabana, Pagpahigmata, Batukan ang Human Trafficking”.

Almost 1,000 delegates from the government agencies in Region 11 and private sectors here in Davao City participated the “March for Freedom”. The parade started 6:00 in the morning, the march started  at the Freedom Park, Roxas Avenue towards  People’s Park.

Davao-based Global Impact Philippines Foundation hosted the event, in partnership with IACAT XI. Hon. Antoinette Principe Castrodes, Former Davao City Mayor, Atty. Sara Duterte-Carpio and Evelyn LaviƱa of Soroptimist International Davao were invited to impart their insights regarding human trafficking.

Castrodes said that the mayor has been supportive on the advocacy that there is already a proposed ordinance which will serve as the localized version of the Republic Act No. 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking Law.

The localized version of the said law is a more comprehensive and full-forced ordinance that covers from the different barangays, schools and up to different organizations.

We cannot totally eliminate the cases of human trafficking, but, at least, we can lessen it if we help each other, said Former Davao City Mayor, Atty. Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The event was formally closed by a prayer led by Bishop Tommy Smith of New Hope Philippines.
