NSFA, Panacan, Davao City, – Tropical storm “Hagupit” is expected to
enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) anytime packing a
strong wind of 230kph that may landfall in Mindanao or Visayas. With
this looming calamity, the Eastern Mindanao Command is preparing for
readiness its disaster response capability.
In a directive issued by Lt General Auerelio Baladad, Commander of
Eastern Mindanao Command, he directed his subordinate units to prepare
and activate designated Disaster Response Units (DRU) and coordinate
with their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council
before the storm enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility and make a
landfall in Visayas or Northern Mindanao.
“We are preparing for two scenarios, one is if the tropical storm
will landfall with in the Eastern Mindanao Command AOR and the second is
if it will hit Visayas. The command is prepared for both scenarios that
necessitate Disaster Response Units to be deployed in affected areas”
Baladad said.
During the onslaught of Typhoon Yolanda, Eastern Mindanao Command sent
it’s Task Force “Tambayayong” to Leyte for Humanitarian and Disaster
Response Operations. The same readiness will be demonstrated by the
command in case Visayas will be hit badly by the storm.(PR)
