TAGUM
CITY, Davao del Norte, December 5 (PIA) - - The number of crimes in Davao del
Norte decreased by about 29% this year compared to last year.
This
was reported Police Superintendent Jessie Estrada, OIC Provincial Director of
Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office, during the Provincial Peace and Order
Council yesterday at the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Hall.
P/Supt.
Estrada disclosed that only 6,833 crimes were reported from January to October
this year for the whole province, which is smaller compared to 9,643 reported
crimes on the same period last year.
Estrada
added that on the crimes committed this year, 3,733 were index crimes and 3,100
were non index crimes.
He
emphasized that the decline showed the effectiveness of their text campaign
coupled with the intensive police visibility, random checkpoints and strong
commitment of force multipliers.
He
said that their text campaign, which was intensified by the posting of stickers
stating the local police hotline numbers last October 2, resulted to faster
responses and resolution of crimes in the province.
Estrada
added that the appointment of non-uniformed personnel (NUP) allowed the organic
force to be a part in patrolling the province.
“The
police, who were assigned as radio operators, have been replaced by NUPs; so
they are part of the ground elements,” he said. (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
