Davao del Norte, November 27, 2014—All disaster operation centers in
the province are now on alert for tropical depression Queenie.
At 10:30 this morning, the office of the Governor declared the
activation of the Incident Command System (ICS) implementing a 24-hour
monitoring, following the tropical cyclone warning released by the
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services
Administration (PAGASA).
In the memorandum order issued by the Regional Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management Council XI, the province was placed under Storm
Signal No. 1 including Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. The
affected provinces were expected “to experience heavy to moderate
rainshowers and thunderstorms that may cause flood, flash flood and
landslides.” Residents were urged to “take precautionary measures and
monitor updates.”
Consequently, the office of the
Governor also issued a memo informing all schools division
superintendents to suspend classes in the pre-school level.
The center of Queenie, according to PAGASA, was estimated at 260 KM
East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur 7am today or at 310 KM East of Surigao
City with maximum winds of 45 kph near the center. Forecast revealed
that Queenie will move West Northwest at 25 kph. (Mera Grace E.
