DAVAO ORIENTAL, December 9, 2014 —
The Provincial Government of Davao Oriental inaugurated on Thursday (December
4) the newly constructed beach park in Brgy. Dapnan in Bagangadubbed as
BagangaSunrise Boulevard.
Opened in time for the second anniversary of
Super typhoon Pablo that devastated the province exactly two years ago,
Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon said that the opening of this new monumental
landmark symbolizes the province’s resiliency and development after three of
the province’s towns were badly destroyed.
With project cost of about P 5-million shelled
out by the Provincial Government, the site coversa 750-meter stretch of
creamy-white coastline.
Overlooking the amazing scenery ofthe vast
Pacific Ocean, new boulevard, which was completed in a span of only 45 days,
consists of several amenities that include two restaurants, a volleyball court,
shower area, beach huts, children’s playground, a concessionaire’s area and an
information center. The latter will serve as the jump-off area for tourists who
wish to explore other tourist sites that can be visited within the town.
CPDA Chief Architect, Charisse Puentespina,
who worked on the project, said this is only the first phase of the entire site
development as the province intends to expand its development. Among the
additions to beplaced are mangrove walk and boating area set to be realized
next year.
Designed as an income-generating tourism site,
the Sunrise Boulevard is also a venue for the locals to sell and promote their
products andcommodities to tourists.
The Baganga Sunrise Boulevard is only one of
the many infrastructure developments that the province has been implementing in
the province as it takes off with its tourism industry.
Governor Malanyaondivulged that the provincial
government intends to put up a tourist landmark in each town. In fact,
development has already started in other municipalities, which include, among
others, the Cape San Agustin in Governor Generoso, Pusan Point in Caraga, Mt.
Hamiguitan in San Isidro, and Aliwagwag Falls in Cateel. The latter is set to
be inaugurated early next year.
She said that these developments intend to
support the province’s eco-tourism industry and boost economic development.
Reasons to celebrate
While others dreaded the thought of being
reminded of typhoon Pablo’s devastation, Gov. Malanyaon said that there are
plentyof reasons why the people of Davao Orientalshould commemorate this day
that is already embedded in the province’s history.
She said it doesn’t merely allow people to
remember what was lost, but also to celebrate life.“We have to recognize the
fact that a lot of new development had sprung after the tragedy,”she said. “We
also have to remember the kindness of the people who had helped us get back on
our feet,” she added.
“The more you’re pained andhurt, the more
wisdom you earn and the more strong you emerge.
All these are enough reasons why we
commemorate the typhoon Pablo every year.” (By KLD/DO PIOI)
