IGaCoS beefs up scholarship program

ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL, January 12, 2015  The City Scholarship Program of the Island Garden City of Samal has always been used as a proactive and powerful vehicle to open up more opportunities to education by the  City Scholarship Program Committee (CSPC) spearheaded by CSPC Chairman City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan.

In recognition to the invaluable supports and contributions to the local government scholarship program, a brief program and awarding ceremony was conferred to the officers and members of the CSPC, the 6th City Council and the SP Committee on Education and Culture during the Monday Convocation at Samal Gymnasium, Brgy. Penaplata on December 15.

During the program, the increase of ten thousand (P10,000.) pesos scholarship financial assistance  every semester or twenty thousand pesos(P20,000.00) for the whole year  per scholar was also disclosed, this was in accordance with City Ordinance No. 2012-195 and executive order no. 29, s. 2013.

On the same occasion, the CSP Committee also took the opportunity to launch the first ever City Scholar’s Policy Handbook.

“It is the intention of the Committee and its Secretariat to design a handbook for the city scholars taking a four (4) years baccalaureate course, five (5) years baccalaureate course, and vocational/technical course respectively”, OIC-City Administrator and CSP Co-Chairman  Guillermo E. Olden said.

Olden said the handbook served as reminders for the city scholars wherein they are required   to present the policy handbook during renewal of their scholarship.  The handbook contains the scholarship policies,  rules and regulations  governing the program to serve as  guide to scholars in monitoring their academic progress every end of the semester and as basis for their status of renewal and/or deferment in the scholarship program.

Moreover, it is the hope of the City to strengthen parent partnership in education.  The Scholarship Coordinator Mary Neil A. Han emphasized that children have the greatest chance of reaching their potential and becoming positive members of the community if there are parental involvement at all stages of education hence, the CSP Committee enjoined parents to put support in place to meet those needs.

Scholarship Coordinator Han also announced the acceptance of interested new applicants for the City Scholarship Program for school year 2015-2016 scheduled on January 21, 2015  in Babak Gym, Babak District; January 22 in Samal Gym, Samal District and January 23 in Kaputian Gym, Kaputian District and for interested applicants to  visit the City Mayor’s Office and see the  accommodating  CSP Secretariat for queries regarding the  program.
