IGaCoS exec dept. seeks support from City Council for projects

ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL - City Mayor Aniano P. Antalan  led the Executive  Department together  with the department heads and assistant department heads in making an appearance to the 6th City Council during their first session conducted  in year 2015 on Tuesday, January 6.

The appearance intended to extend felicitations New Year’s greetings and gratitude to the 6th City Council for the support to the 2015 budget and most of all the courtesy paid was to seek support from the August body to expedite the approval of the construction of the proposed Transport Terminal and Public Market Building.

After suspending the City Council’s house rules, the executive department thru City Engineer Darwin S. Arig, the authorized and designated spokesperson for the activity, extended the executive department’s greetings and gratitude to the August Body.  He then rendered a brief PowerPoint presentation of the proposed transport terminal and public market.

As per presentation, the estimated total project cost amounted to P130- Million comprising the construction of the transport terminal, stalls, food court, drainage, concrete road pavement, water treatment facility and other business related facilities in the three hectare area which will be availed through a loan from financial institution.

Most of the members of the council raised their concerns on the proposed project particularly matters related to traffic, carrying capacity of the terminal given the city’s rapid economic development, project’s environmental impacts, water and electric power supply   and clarifications on local business sectors and general public’s readiness and acceptance to the development.

The Council also asked the possibility of implementing the project in a progressive manner to accommodate other project specifically the purchase of new fire truck(s).  The Council also reiterated the previously discussed Build Transfer scheme of the project.

The local Finance Committee represented by City Accountant Gladys Hurano was optimistic to the suggested progressive scheme of implementation of the transport terminal and public market and pushed for the project’s turnkey system of payment.

City Mayor Antalan highly appreciated the executive department’s presentation and was grateful to the given observations and queries of the city councilors in which issues and concerns raised were properly clarified and explained.

Before the session ended, majority of the members of the 6th City Council expressed support to the project; nonetheless, the matter will still be deliberated in the committee of the whole level as  Legislative Department’s proper protocol. (MTA Samal Info.)
