DAVAO DEL NORTE, January 15 (PIA) - - The
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) based in this province
initiated the establishment of commercial tree plantations of Falcata in New Corella.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), revealed in an
interview that Falcata are grown commercially in 173 hectares of land in New
Corella.
“The project has been coordinated well with the
wood processing plants (WPPs), who financed P-20,000 per hectare for the
plantation, which will cover expenses from the creation of the nursery to
seedling production to maintenance of the farm.” Cariazo said.
“In the end, these WPPs will be market of the
growers,” he continued.
He further disclosed that under the Community
Based Forest Management (CBFM) program, two people’s organizations were chosen
to implement the plantation.
The identified people’s organizations were El
Salvador Farmers and tree Planters Integrated Cooperative and SAWAWON Tee
Planters Association, both from New Corella.
“The project resolves not only the issues on
climate change and illegal logging but it also creates livelihood in the
community,” Cariazo added.
Meanwhile, Cariazo also boasted on the
province’s contribution on the TreeVolution conducted last September 26, 2014.
According to the TreeVolution report, Davao del
Norte got the highest accomplishment rating of 82% besting other provinces in
the region.
He acknowledged that strong support of Gov.
Rodolfo del Rosario was one of the main reason for the success of the
simultaneous tree planting in the province.
“Because of Gov. Del Rosario, local government
units with or without planting sites have showed their cooperation in the
