STA. CRUZ, Davao del Sur, Jan. 14 (PIA) – Familiar faces of the
country’s most extreme adventure race are among the early registrants of the
2015 International Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge to be held on April 25-26,
here.
The team of the Philippine National Police (PNP) headed by 2011
champion Jonathan Pido will be parading four teams this year in the Open Elite
category while last year’s All-Male and All-Female Relay champs Team
Tri-Buddies Tagum are out to defend its title in the same categories.
Open Elite defending champs Mark Anthony Rance and April John
Maniyog of Team Boatman/Escape Route have already started their training
program even before the start of 2015.
The duo will have their hands full against the country’s top
adventure racers who are out to give them a run for their money.
Another team to watch out for in this year’s race is the come
backing team of the Philippine Army Manila in Cresenciano Sabal and Gerald
Sabal.
Cresenciano Sabal, in his facebook post, said their team will be
joining this year after escaping the race last year. The team of Sabal brothers
ruled the competition in 2012.
The Mt. Apo Boulder Face Challenge is a 24-hour extreme
adventure race with four disciplines in mountain biking, trail
running/trekking, water tubing and road running.
It was started last 2008 primarily by the Municipality of Sta.
Cruz to set up an advocacy to save and protect Mt. Apo being the highest
mountain in the Philippines and a key biodiversity area.
This year’s event will be special as it was enrolled by the
Department of Tourism as a highlight event of the Visit Philippines 2015.
