OWWA-XI opens search for 2012 Model OFW Family

DAVAO CITY, July 5 (PIA) – The annual search for model overseas Filipino workers family of the year has been opened for nominations with a deadline of submission set on August 16, 2013.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA-XI) is inviting stakeholders to nominate their choice of model family who deserves to be conferred of the 2012 Model Overseas Filipino Workers Family of the Year Award (MOFYA).

The search aims to give recognition to OFWs and their families who have demonstrated financial stability, steady and enduring family ties, outstanding community service and success in business venture.

The OWWA-XI said that the MOFYA focuses on OFWs and their families who have maintained strong family relations, properly harnessed the financial gains from the OFWs overseas employment and have educational achievements.

The qualified model families must have also shown exemplary performance in their respective professions, and at the same time have a positive impact in the community where they reside, OWWA-XI stated in its announcement.

The agency explained that the model families will be chosen from each of the country’s 17 regions, one each in the land-based and sea-based categories. The national awardees will be selected from the 17 sets of regional awardees.

OWWA-XI announced that the nominator of the winning OFW family for the land-based and sea-based categories will be given a cash prize of P50,000.

The nominations are expected to come from the local government units, non-government organizations, peoples’ organizations, community-based socio-civic organizations and religious groups.

Aside from the major award, two special awards such as Outstanding Achievement in Community Projects and Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship will also be bestowed on deserving families.

OWWA-XI said that the success stories of the model OFW families will serve as a guiding light for others to overcome the difficulties of migration and further enhance the image of OFW families in the community.
