OWWA-XI accepts scholarship applications for 2014-2015

DAVAO CITY, July 4 (PIA) – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in the region has announced that it is now accepting applications for its Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) for school year 2014-2015.

The EDSP is granted to qualified fourth year high school students who are dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) with active OWWA membership.

Applicants must meet the following qualifications: must be below 21 years old, Filipino citizens, belonging to the top 20 percent of the high school graduation class, in good health, and with no earned units in post secondary/undergraduate course.

Another requirement is the no grade below 80% in all taken subjects.

OWWA-XI’s announcement said the EDSP is a competitive, educational assistance program that entitles the qualified OFW dependents to take any four or five-year baccalaureate course in any college or university at the maximum amount of P60,000 per school year.

OWWA-XI’s Education and Training Unit (ETU) sets a deadline of submission of the applications and pertinent documents on August 9, 2013 to OWWA Regional Welfare Office XI (RWO-XI), at No. 31 Doors E-G Cam Bldg., Monteverde St., Davao City.

Applicants may also submit to their respective provincial Family Welfare Office (FWO): Davao del Sur - Herman C. Sab (0919-3442479); Davao del Norte - Melody Ember P. Tomas (0948-4526962); Davao Oriental – Anne A. Alban (0926-2970599); and Compostela Valley – Jely C. Lindaan (0930-2715563).

The following documents are required: two sets of accomplished Application Form which is available at RWO-XI or FWO; two copies of 2x2 ID pictures; Form 137/Transcript of Records; valid ID of applicant; and proof of OWWA membership (Official Receipt of OWWA Contribution/Certificate of Coverage).

Other requirements are: passport - page 1, latest visa, arrival and departure page for land-based OFWs; or Seaman’s Book – pages 1 &2, latest embarkation and disembarkation with stamp from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for the sea-based OFWs.

Another set of pertinent documents to be submitted are: proof of relationship to OWWA member/OFW such as Birth Certificates (certified by the Local Civil Registry or National Statistics Office) of applicant if child of OFW; LCR or NSO certified Birth Certificates of sibling applicant of OFW.

A Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR) is required if applicant is the sibling of OFW; or CENOMAR concerning single status of sibling or child applicant aged 18 years old and above.

OWWA-XI further announced that the nationwide conduct of the 2014 Undergraduate Scholarship Examination of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), of which the qualifying examination for the OWWA’s EDSP is a rider, is slated on September 22, 2013.
