1,211 employees, Tagum mayor heals ‘Tom Jones’ trauma

Mayor Allan Rellon has personally administered the employees’ oath to public service on July 2, 2013 at the Freedom Park.

Rhea, who worked in the City Government for 13 years as casual employee, leapt with joy when she saw her name last week in the list of renewed employees. “Thank God, I could still provide the needs of my family”, she said.

Tom Jones is best associated with ‘TamJuns’ for Local Government employees as lingo for ‘Taman June’ (Until June) when new officials take over the management and especially if an opposition wins into office.

But in his effort to whisk-off TamJuns mentality, opposition Mayor Allan Rellon diligently prepared his team in the city hall when he personally interviewed casual and job order employees after office hours and during weekends.
More than thousand employees re-applied and have expressed their willingness to work under the new administration. “Affected employees were so delighted that Rellon administration gave them a chance,” said Ms. Gracelyn Mabida, an HRMO staff who coordinated the process.

Mayor Rellon renewed employees who are competent and specially those who uphold the non-partisan principle of civil service rules. When asked about his preference, “We are building a new face of government which is transparent and more humane who is people-oriented than being profit-oriented. Definitely, our new breed of workers should be respectful to people from all walks of life, courteous regardless of social status, and most of all God-fearing public servants,” he said.

It was earlier reported that Rellon personally chose employees upon merits and screened them in three (3) phases in accordance to qualification, character, and previous records.

“Without counting those in co-terminus positions, 95% of renewed employees is still high considering that our working force is dealing with the new administration”, said HRMO chief Edna Quilario.

The administration of Mayor Rellon exemplified the virtue of compassion who highly considered the plight of non-partisan employees who plainly worked hard to live a decent life.

With Tagum’s emergence of new leadership, city hall employees are now free from TamJuns trauma. “I am going to shed-off that culture of fear,” Rellon said. (CROMWELL-CIO Tagum)
