DAVAO CITY July 18 (PIA)- About 42 passengers of the Cebu Pacific Flight 5J971 which skidded off the Davao runway last June 2 will be receiving compensation from the airline company.
These were the group of passengers who had banded together as Flight 5J971 Crash Victims Association and earlier demanded a P1-million per passenger compensation from the airline.
The compensation is part of a quitclaim agreement with the airline company. The amount of cash which the 42 passengers will be receiving is shrouded in secrecy as part of the quitclaim. The cash will be distributed in the afternoon today (July 18).
"We are glad that Cebu Pacific has reached out to all the passengers of 5J 971 particularly our group 5J 971 Crash Victims Association." said the group's public relations officer Nino Alinsub during a press conference held this morning (July 18).
The press conference will also be the last for the group as after the payment and under the terms of the quitclaim they will closing the issue behind them.
The details of the harrowing passengers' experience during the July 2 landing at the Davao International Airport was detailed in Alinsub's online blog which went viral in the internet and was subsequently picked by the media.
"We have agreed to accept the airline's very reasonable offer of financial assistance to cover passengers' expenses related to the incident." Alinsub said reading the group's official statement.
Aside from the cash compensation, the airline also assured the group of their steps "to make flying with them a better experience." (PIA/RG Alama)
