DAVAO CITY, July 18 (PIA): Differently-abled and abled persons will join their running forces together on Sunday at 4:30 a.m. at SM City Davao for the M.O.V.E Pilipinas Run 2013 organized by the Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine (PARM).
PARM stages such event in observance of the 35th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (NDPRW) from July 17 to 23 to promote awareness on the needs of persons with disabilities and to highlight their different talents.
“Persons with disabilities will participate with regular runners,” said Dr. Svetlana Marie Aycardo, overall chair of PARM M.OV.E. Pilipinas Run 2013.
Dr. Aycardo said that M.O.V.E (Making Ourselves Vigilant to Exercise) Pilipinas Run 2013 is special advocacy project of PARM, “recently awarded as the most outstanding project by the Philippine Medical Association.”
This year, the PARM M.O.V.E will be simultaneously held in Manila particularly at the Quezon City Circle, 5:00 a.m.; Tacloban City at the Km. 0, EVRMC Hospital, 1:00 a.m.; and in Davao City at SM City Davao, 4:30 p.m.
Aycardo explained that the activity will benefit the PARM FUND ( Fund for the Upliftment of the Needy Differently-Abled), aiming to assist persons with disabilities “for their medical and rehabilitation care.
The PARM FUND also seeks to encourage athletes with disabilities to participate in sports, support skills training, to conduct out disability awareness and prevention workshops and to fund the PARM-PMA Rehab Charity Clinic.
Established ibn 1974, PARM is composed of doctors called Physiatrists, who specialize in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. (PIA XI/jmda)
