MATI CITY, Davao Oriental, July 5 (PIA) – The provincial government of Davao Oriental through the Task Force for Reconstruction and Development has organized a two-day Pagpatitigam Communication Training Workshop aimed at strengthening information and communication network in the province.
The communication training workshop which started yesterday formed part of the Building Back Better Movement that carried the reconstruction and development framework plan of the provincial government for the Typhoon Pablo devastated towns of Baganga, Cateel and Boston.
Invited to the training workshop were information officers from local governments in the provinces, those in national line agencies based in the province, the private media practitioners in Mati City and members of the staff of the Provincial Information Office (PIO).
In addressing the workshop participants, Davao Oriental Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon pointed out the importance of information and communication which she said played an important role during disasters such as the Typhoon Pablo experience.
Malanyaon expected participants to work together to intensify the dissemination of information about the rebuilding and the rehabilitation efforts of the government.
Discussed on the day one of the training workshop were topics on short messaging system (SMS) reporting, effective writing, definition of terms commonly used in humanitarian response, news writing.
Second day topics were humanitarian principles, communications with disaster-affected communities (CDAC), community consultation, basic photography and radio reporting.
The provincial government pooled the expertise of the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Agencies (UN OCHA), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) XI, the International Organization for Migration and the Humanitarian Response Consortium (HRC) Oxfam to discuss the topics of the two-day event.
