Salubong sa Chinese New Year set on February 7 in Davao City



DAVAO CITY, Feb 1 (PIA) City Tourism and Promotions Head Lisette Marques announced the Chinese New Year activities set on February 7 at the Chinese communities in Davao City.

She said the activity dubbed as “Salubong sa Chinese New Year,” will be celebrated at the Rizal Park.

Marques said the festivity will go on without firecrackers due to the existing ordinance banning the use of pyro technique wares in the city.

“We will be bringing the activity to the Rizal Park, where Chinese-Filipinos welcome 2016, the year fire-red monkey,” she said.

Marques said it is already a tradition of the Chinese families to be together on February 8.

She said the festivities will feature the dragon and lion dances, food stalls and the Chinese traditional games.

“The Year of the Monkey also characterizes fun that is why we have the traditional Chinese games,” Marquez said.

She said the private sector like the malls and big businesses within the China Town will also participate in the activities.

Marques said that the city government has allotted P100,000 for the festivity while its private sector counterpart will shell out  P400,000.  (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
