PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte – 63 couples tied the knot
in the presence of Mayor James Gamao, solemnizing officer of the city’s Kasalan
ng Lungsod 2016.
In time for the Valentine's Day, the Kasalan, which was held at
the city hall lobby was organized by the City Civil Registrar's Office (CCRO),
headed by Dennis Devilleres.
Devilleres said that this Kasalan is intended for those unwed
couples, living together with financial difficulties.
Before they were solemnized, Mayor Gamao reminded the couples to
be responsible in educating and molding their children, and to put God in the
center of their relationship and if possible, have a church wedding.
Gracing the occasion is the presence of Vice Mayor Janrey Gavina,
Councilor Raquel Geraldo, Councilor Wahid Ranain, Councilor Renante Bangoy,
Councilor Miguel Niez, city government department heads and guests from the
congressional and provincial offices.
The couple received wedding gifts, cakes and giveaways from Cong.
Antonio F. Lagdamao, Jr. and Mayor Gamao.
Couple Joel Marindoque and Jackelyn Rabe won a honeymoon hotel
package with car service raffle prize from Councilor Bangoy.
The oldest groom, Ernesto Peñaranda, 54, married to Analyn Sarona
and the earliest couple to arrive, Adrian Romay and Marlona Gulayan received
cash prizes from the mayor.
He is thankful to to Mayor Gamao and the officials for his family
can now enjoy the previledges of legally married couples. Peñaranda added
during the interview, “This marriage will strengthen our family.”
The CCRO has been empowering the churches and the barangays to
conduct more mass weddings, giving their recipient couples almost the same
previledges as the city’s Kasalan. (Erick Etis – CIO / LGU-Panabo)
