October 5 (PIA) - - A copra producing
cooperative in the Island Garden City of Samal availed
on Friday (October 2) Shared Service Facility program worth P855,000 from the
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The San Remegio Agrarian
Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SARBEMCO) obtained coco coir
processing facilities, which include 60 electric-run twining machine, 32
bicycle-type twining machine, 4 geonet weaving machine, decorticating machine
with 23 HP engine and coir-fiber extraction machinery.

Fedrico Tautuan stressed that since the start of their copra production in
1996, they dreamt of utilizing their waste, especially the coconut husks into
income generating source.
“Ug karon ang damgo na
tinuod na gayod pinaagi aning mga ekwipo na gihatag sa DTI (And today that
dream becomes a reality through the equipment given by the DTI),” Tautuan said.
He also bared that even
before the SSF, the cooperative manually manufacture twines from coco coir,
which they bought from a coconut buying company in Davao City.
During the turn-over
and launching of the facilities, Tautuan and DTI Davao del Norte Provincial Director
Romeo Castañaga inked a memorandum of agreement and usufruct agreement for the
utilization of the SSF.
Director Castañaga
emphasized that aside from the facilities given to the cooperative, the
