DAVAO ORIENTAL, October 5, 2015 –The
Provincial Peace and Order and the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Councils of Davao
Oriental have lauded the police and military forces here, together with other
stakeholders against crime, for the successful series of operations against the
illegal drug trade.
PSSUPT. Joseph B. Sepulchre, Provincial Director
of the DOPPO, reported that from June to September 2015, the entire police
forces of Davao Oriental have conducted a total of 23 operations leading to the
arrest of 33 persons including some high-value targets and the confiscation of
drugs with total market value of more than P15 million. He said cases were
already filed against the offenders in accordance to RA 9165 or the Dangerous
Drugs Act of 2002.
701st Brigade Commander Bienvenido R. Datuin,
Jr., attributed this feat to the collaboration and unified approach of the
military, police, and the anti-illegal drug task force. He said the agencies
have increasingly merged that resulted to the success of the province’s
anti-illegal drugs campaign.
This was concurred by the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency –Provincial Drug Enforcement Office, reporting that the
converged efforts of all stakeholders have made significant impact in the
effort of bringing the illicit drug trade to a standstill.
Meanwhile, the PDEA admitted that the illicit
trafficking of drugs and the presence of strong criminal groups and networks
are among the growing concerns and common problems encountered by government
units around the country. However, in Davao Oriental, PDEA claimed that the
drug situation in the province remains to be ‘generally controllable’ in
comparison to other provinces and regions.
The PDEA added that with the continuous strong
coordination and support from all law enforcement units, LGU’s can curb the
illegal drug trade that will badly hurt the operation of criminal networks.
Governor Corazon N. Malanyaon lauded the efforts
of all stakeholders, particularly the combined efforts of the police and
military in backing the Provincial Government’s bid in stopping drug
trafficking and rooting out criminal networks.
Highlighting the drastic impact of drug abuse to
families and to the society, adding that drug problem is a serious threat to
development and health, the Provincial Government ordered the military and
police forces to intensify efforts in fighting crimes and promoting sustainable
and effective measures to stop illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse.
She also encouraged everyone, particularly
members of the PADAC, to help educate the communities, especially the younger
ones of the illeffects of drugs. She says everyone has a stake in fighting the
illicit drug trade. (PIO DavOr)
