DAVAO DEL NORTE, October 21 (PIA) - - Three hundred sixty two
(362) certificates of candidacies (COC) for May 2016 Elections were filed in
the different offices of Commission on Elections within in the province last
week.
Among those candidates, two filed for the position of governor:
Congressman Antonio Rafael del Rosario of the Liberal Party (LP) and an
independent Vice Governor Victorio Suaybaguio Jr.
The filing of COCs for governorship became controversial when Vice
Governor Suaybaguio, who was then part of the LP slate, withdrew his first COC
as congressman in the first district replacing it with his COC as governor.
The incident became more controversial when a video of the
encounter of Congressman Del Rosario and Vice Gov. Suaybaguio went viral in the
internet.
Meanwhile, Board Member Alan Dujali, who will be running as
independent candidate, and Jessie Estrada of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino
filed their COCs for vice governorship.
Former Congressman Antonio Floirendo was the sole candidate for
congressman of District 2; while five candidates will be contending in District
1.
For Board members, 19 are gunning down for the ten seats in the
Sangguniang Panlalawigan. Of which ten is from District 1 and nine from
District 2.
In the three cities and eight municipalities, 333 COCs were filed,
including 35 mayors, 34 vice mayors and 264 councilors.
Two candidates running for mayor were unopposed: Mayor Basilio
Libayao from Talaingod and Eufracio Dayaday, Jr. from Asuncion.
