PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte, October 21, 2015
– The City of Panabo joins the celebration of Population and Development Week
through the City Health Office (CHO) with the Department of Education (DepEd)
and Commission on Population (PopCom) at the New City Hall, Brgy. J.P. Laurel
on October 14, 2015.
Part of the event was Poster Making, Essay
Writing, PopQuiz and On The Spot Jingle Writing and Singing Contest with this
year’s theme: “Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies: No Excuses Protecting A
Woman’s Life Is A Priority In Any Circumstances And At All Times.”
Mayor Engr. James G. Gamao emphasized the
importance of increasing the awareness on population management and development
among young people through this contest that depicts their situations such as
early pregnancy and other issues confronting them.
According to City Health Officer Dr. Emelda T.
Bendijo, 15 schools both from public and private schools participated in the
events.
Content of questions and theme are based on
the population core messages and key concepts on family life and responsible
parenthood, gender and development, population and reproductive health and
sustainable development, she added.
The following are the list of winners for this
year’s PopDev’15 week celebration; on Population Quiz; 1st placer Angel Bullen
from Southern Davao National High School, followed by 2nd placer Aimee
Ringanada from San Vicente National High School and 3rd placer Mary Christine Cocaje
of Little Panay National High School.
On Essay writing contest 1st place winner Nick
Andre Cabote from National HS, 2nd placer Jennelyn Getigan from San Vicente
National HS and Kashiza Manrique from Don Manuel Javellana National HS won the
3rd place.
On the spot Jingle Writing and Singing Contest
winners were 1st placer Melody Toning from Antonio O. Floirendo National HS,
Jessa Mapalo from Panabo National HS as 2nd placer and Jhambee Guitones from
Don Manuel A. Javellana HS as 3rd placer.
Jericho Refuela Orbuda from Southern Davao
National HS led the Poster Making followed by 2nd placer Denvert Roland Cua
from A.O. Floirendo National HS and on the 3rd placer Velly King Marcellones
from San Vicente National HS.
The POPDEV 2015 week celebration is in the
recognition of the importance of integrating population dynamics with
development planning, policy making, interest and awareness of school youth and
program responses from various stake holders on population and management
