DavOr celebrates National Peace Consciousness Month



Mati City, Davao Oriental, Oct. 5, 2015 — For the continuous development in the Province of Davao Oriental, the Provincial Local Government Unit in partnership with the 701st “Kagitingan” Brigade, Youth for Peace Davao Oriental (YFPDO), National and Local Agencies and different stakeholders, celebrated the National Peace Consciousness Month with a theme: “Unity towards Peace and Development” last September 30, 2015 at the Capitol Covered Court City of Mati, Davao Oriental.  

The celebration was full of life due to the community singing led by the Youth for Peace Davao Oriental and the organization also presented a dance number; where in the latter part of the performance, they gave roses to the key leaders of the province headed by the Governor Corazon Malanyaon as a sign of gratitude.

Oliver Binancilan, area manager of PAMANA-OPAPP, during his message committed an amount of Php 1.2M as support to the different peace efforts of the Province of Davao Oriental.

Likewise, a prayer was offered by Pastor Ruben Colmo and he then gave words of encouragement for the continuous support for peace in the province, “Let us unite for the lasting peace in Davao Oriental” Pastor Colmo said.

Furthermore, Honorable Corazon N. Malanyaon, Governor of the Province of Davao Oriental then gave her message of peace saying, “we must continuously be united for a just and lasting peace; for if there is no peace, there will be no development”. The Governor also emphasized on the importance of peace and development for this is the main reason for the improvement of the quality of life of the people of the province.

A candle lighting then followed. The activity was participated by more or less one thousand (1,000) participants as they sing the song “Let there be peace on earth” that was led by YFPDO members. A peace Pact Signing then followed showing the pledge of support for unity and lasting peace.

In a message given by Police Superintendent Joseph B. Sepulcre, OIC of the Davao Oriental Provincial Police Office, he encouraged everyone to continuously be united and be responsible in the maintenance of peace in the province.

“This relative peace that we are now experiencing is a great challenge for us to sustain, all we need to do is to continue being united because peace is our responsibility and as we continue defending peace, development will surely be resilient in our province” Col Victor J. Tan, Deputy Brigade Commander of the 701st “Kagitingan” Brigade said during his message.

The activity was highlighted with the releasing of doves and white balloons spearheaded by the Governor herself together with the heads of the different offices and organizations of Davao Oriental. (Cpt. Ray Boy B. Ibanes (QMS) PA)
