Panabo City Celebrates 20TH Elderly Week



PANABO CITY, Davao del Norte, October 15, 2015 – The City Government of Panabo through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and Panabo Federation of Senior Citizen’s Association (PAFESCA) celebrated the 20th Socio-Cultural and Sports Competition with the Theme: “Igalang ang Karapatan ng mga Nakatatanda” on September 30, 2015 at the ARF Gym, Brgy.New Pandan.

City Mayor Engr. James G. Gamao stressed the contribution of the older persons in the city development and in nation building, “The wisdom and experiences being imparted to us by the elderly will serve as our guide in life and to inspire the younger generation to become leaders”, he said.

“One of the leading priorities of our government unit is to provide them the basic needs such as medicines and other health benefits,” he added.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Janrey G. Gavina encouraged those senior citizens to be a member of the association in their respective Barangay so that they can avail of the services being offered by the government.

Also present during the activity were Councilors Wahid Ranain, Janet Maboloc, Emmanuel Pamisaran, CSWDO Head Jeanette Lamoste, District II Congressional Office representative Engr. Dante Bautista, Office of the Senior Citizen Associations (OSCA) Head Jesus Pañales, PAFESCA President Tacotche Ranain, among others.

Winners in the events will compete in the Provincial Socio-Cultural and Sports Competition which includes the Ballroom Dancing, Vocal Solo, Chess, Dart and Dama games.

The yearly celebration is pursuant to presidential Decree No. 470 Series of 1994 by former President Fidel V. Ramos declaring the 1st week of October as Elderly Week to give importance in promoting the rights and  well-being of the elderly people.(Jasz/Cio Panabo)
