Davao City commemorates Fish Preservation Week



DAVAO CITY, Oct 21 (PIA) Barangay Talomo today initiated a coastal clean-up in line with the celebration of the 3rd Week of October as Fish Preservation Week.

Mary Moraten, fisheries resource officer of the City Agriculture Office said the coastal clean-up is conducted side by side with the formal registration of fisher folks, fishing boats and fishing gears.

She said that barangay officials spearhead the activity to encourage fisher folk constituents to cooperate.

Morten said tilapia fingerlings distribution will also be done in Marilog District. She said Bantay-dagat volunteers will also be deputized on October 22.

“They will be deputized as fish warden in a simple rite at the World Palace Convention Center.  They will be our partners in the implementation of fishery laws and regulations in the city particularly the Comprehensive Fishery Code of the City,” Morten said.
She said the Fishery Week will be culminated with the fisher folks side by side with the officials of the City Agriculture Office and the Bureau of Fisheries and Natural Resources.  (PIA-11 Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
