PANABO CITY, Davao de Norte, Feb 4 (PIA)- Family, friends, local
government officials and members of the Philippine National Police in
Davao Region finally laid to rest P01 Lover Inocencio, one of the 44
police commandos killed in botched operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao
in January 25.
The internment which was done with full military honors was preceded
by a concelebrated mass by headed by Tagum Bishop Alfredo Manlapaz, Lipa
City Bishop Ramon Arguelles and the members of the clergy.
Comrades of the victim at the Special Action Force described Lover as a peace officer with wit and dedication to service.
Liezl, the victim’s wife shared their aspiration to grow old as couple and to see their son graduate in college.
She described Lover as a very responsible husband and father who
maximized his 15-day furlough with them after every three months.
Liezl said Lover spent most of his time with them happily during his
stay with them in Samal Island, Panabo City and Trento, Agusan del Sur,
before returning to his post in Zamboanga City.
She said Lover hoped to be assigned in Davao del Norte after the Mamasapano assignment to be closer to his family.
She and her family cried for justice for the fate of the police officer.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who joined the internment and
consoled the family reiterated his grief for the large number of police
commandos who sacrificed their lives needlessly.
He welcomed the creation of a truth commission that will investigate deeply the Mamasapano incident.
Duterte said an independent body like the truth commission will
ensure clarity of the investigation since it can ask question both from
the government and those who were attacked.
He stressed that what is clear for now is that the chain of command
was not followed, a view which is also shared by former President Fidel
V. Ramos.
“If I were involved in the decision-making of that operation, I would
tender my resignation for delicadeza,” Duterte said. (PIA 11-Joey Sem
