DAVAO DEL NORTE, February 13 (PIA) - - One hundred fifteen
couples residing in Panabo will get married on Valentine’s Day, February 14, at
the New Panabo City Hall.
Dennis Devilleres, city civil registrar, bared that 115 indigent
couples registered for the Kasalan ng Lungsod, a mass wedding
program of the City Government which is conducted every February 14 as part of
the celebration of the National Statistics Month.
Devilleres said that most of the couples to be wed in the
Kasalan ng Lungsod 2015 were living together already.
“Some opted to join in the mass wedding to satisfy the
requirement of their companies in order to continue their employment,” he said.
Devilleres stressed that the main purpose of the mass wedding is
to legitimize the union of the couples.
He said that personally, he believed that legalizing the union
of the couple might address some of the social problems of the society like
juvenile crimes.
“With their union legally bound by law, they may be able to
acknowledge lawfully their children and perhaps a start to properly raise them.
Some of the children in conflict with the law are illegitimate children,” he
said.
Meanwhile, Devilleres also disclosed that this year’s Kasalan is
the first year that Mayor James Gamao will officiate as wedding solemniser and
the first also to be held in the New City Hall. He said that previous Kasalan
ng Lungod ceremonies were held in the ARF Gym located within the Panabo City
Parks and Plaza.
Aside from that, he encouraged that city officials and
department heads to wear their proper wedding attire as witnesses of the
ceremony.
The couples will also be given their own cakes and give-aways
like the wine glass they will use during the ceremony. (PIA11, Michael Uy)
