DAVAO CITY- The province of Compostela Valley is also preparing for
the holding of the Palarong Pambansa which will be held this May 3-9 in
Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
According to Compostela Valley Board Member Tyron Uy, they have
already informed the seaside towns of Maco, Mabini and Pantukan who are
the towns nearest to Tagum City for the spillover of visitors converging
in the capital of Davao del Norte.
Uy said the original plan was for the three schools in Maco to be
used as billeting facilities for the athletes during the Palaro however
Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario ditched the idea when he
learned that another memorandum of agreement has to be signed between
the Philippine Sports Commission and the province of Compostela Valley.
The Palaro Pambansa one of the biggest sporting events in the country
will involve about 18,000 to 20,000 student-athletes and visitors. Uy
said this will have a huge impact on tourism particularly the beaches of
the province near Tagum City.
He said the province is planning a tourism project for the event
which they will be finalizing. Uy also added that the Palaro Pambansa
will fortunately coincide with their summer beach festival hosted by the
coastal municipalities.
The towns of Maco, Mabini and Pantukan hosts several white sand beaches
and other coastal attractions. They are very accessible from Tagum via
the Surigao Davao Coastal Road. (PIA/RG Alama)
