DAVAO CITY, Feb 13 (PIA) The debating team from the University
of the Philippines-Mindanao won the first round of the Bombo Radyo Debate 2015
against the debating team of the Davao Merchant Marine Academy to resolve the
proposition to whether or not implement the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
The UP-Mindanao took the affirmative assertion while the DMMA
team stood the negative side.
The board of judges chaired by Atty. Arnold Abejaron, head of
the Economics Department of the Ateneo de Davao University declared the winners
citing Christian Pedregosa of the DMMA, third speaker of the negative side as
the best speaker.
He also cited the second speaker Jason Jed Mendoza of the
UP-Mindanao taking the affirmative side as the best debater.
“We have given the listeners the chance to appreciate two sides
of the Bangsamoro Basic Law, a very important piece of legislation for
Mindanao,” Abejaron said.
Eventually, he declared the UP-Mindanao debating team as the
winner for the first elimination round.
The respective debating teams from the University of Mindanao
and Holy Cross of Davao College Babak Campus, Island Garden City of Samal will
compete on the second elimination round on February 20, 2015.
The winners of the first and second elimination rounds will
compete on the third and final round.
Overall winning school of the debate will receive P15,000 while
