DAVAO CITY- The Department of Tourism-XI has identified two
barangays in Marilog district to be developed as tourism zones.
Marilog is a sub-district under Davao City’s 3rd
Congressional District.
The barangays lie within BUDA (Bukidnon-Davao) boundary area
which is known for its cool climate, panoramic mountain vistas, waterfalls and
caves, mountain resorts and the presence of
indigenous communities.
DOT-XI Regional Director Roberto Alabado III said Buda has
the right ingredients conducive for tourism development.
A tourism plan is being conducted in coordination with the
National Commission for the Indigenous Peoples (NICP) as the identified
barangays fall within the ancestral domain of the Matigsalog tribe.
Alabado says they are looking at a tourism plan that will
preserve the environment and also the cultural rights of the indigenous peoples
in the area. Stating that the development of the tourism sites would be
low-impact.
The DOT-XI head said that the local government of Davao is
also eyeing the area as a tourism zone as it has been identified as such in its
Comprehensive Land Use Plan or CLUP.
