Duterte bats for competence in choosing new police chief

DAVAO CITY, Feb 12 (PIA) Mayor Rodrigo Duterte stressed that the next director general of the Philippine National Police must be competent to run an organization.

He said the choice of a new PNP chief is the call of the president.

Duterte suggested the names of former directors of the Davao City Police Office and the Regional Police Office 11 who maybe at times very silent but capable enough to manage a police organization.

“Rene Aspera and Jaime Morente, they perform well,” he said.

On the pursuit of the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Duterte said the initiative must always come from the government.

He said the government must call on the MILF to return to the negotiating table.

Duterte said going to war brings more hardship since the battlefield is Mindanao, which includes Davao City.

He said the Mamasapano incident will be aggravated more if government abandons the peace negotiation.

“The other side of not talking is violence,” Duterte said.  (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
