35 Tagum-trained butchers off to Australia

TAGUM CITY—At least 35 individuals are set to fly to Australia this year after being hired to work as butchers in Tey’s Brothers, one of the largest meat processing companies in the Land Down Under.

They passed the rigorous screening process conducted by the Australian in Tagum City, which included series of agility and trade tests, respectively, last July 14-17, 2014.

Of the 35 hired butchers, 28 are from Tagum while the rest are residents of Davao City, Kidapawan City, Digos City, Cotabato City and Municipality of Pantukan in Compostela Valley Province. These 35 individuals were slashed from the 264 hopefuls who joined the said series of tests.

Mayor Allan L. Rellon congratulated them for finally realizing their dream to work in Australia, saying that the local government shall continue to help those who wanted to have a lease in life through the LGU’s employment and livelihood agenda under the EAGLE WINGS Program.

The newly-hired butchers are graduates of the Skills Training Program on Slaughtering Operation organized by the City Government of Tagum through the Public Employment Services Office and the City Veterinary Office.

City Veterinarian Jesus Edullantes said the 35 individuals will add to the long list of Tagum-trained butchers who are now working in Australia, which now totaled to more than 400 individuals, 70% of which are Tagum residents.
