Around 58 participants from the different Local Government Units, partner National Government Agencies and Civil Society Organizations in Mindanao are due in the city for the Mindanao Cluster Regional Directors’ Consultation Workshop (RDCW) at the Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City on July 22-25, 2014.
Heads of DSWD partner agencies from all over Mindanao such as the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will attend the said activity.
The primary objective of the consultation workshop is to zero in on top provinces with high poverty incidence, high magnitude of poverty and high exposure to hazards, and craft a follow through inter-agency plan for the regional commitments with particular inclusion and focus on the priority provinces.
In Mindanao, included in the Top 10 provinces in the country with the highest poverty incidence (based on Listahanan database, 2010) are Lanao del sur with 73.8% poverty incidence, Maguindanao with 63.7%, Zamboanga del Norte with 54.4%, Camiguin with 53.6%, Sarangani with 53.2% and North Cotabato with 52.4%.
Moreover, included in the Top 10 provinces with highest magnitude of poor households (based on Listahanan database, 2010) are Zamboanga del Sur with 170,181 households, Sulu with 122,218 and Davao del Sur with 111, 655.
“The RDCW is a gathering of key stakeholders which aims to strengthen operational mechanisms and institutional arrangement between and among partner agencies. It serves as a venue in strengthening partnership, collaboration and support towards provision of concrete actions to harmonize social protection initiatives of different national government agencies (NGAs) to best serve the needs, especially of the Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)”, explained Merlinda A. Paragamac, DSWD Regional Convergence Coordinator.
Pantawid Pamilya has been keeping children in school and families healthy since its onset in 2008. At present, Davao Region has 198,973 households beneficiaries in all 4 provinces, 6 cities, 43 municipalities covering 2,217 barangays.
DSWD strives to attain its Strategic Goals by raising the status of the 2.3 million Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries to “self-sufficiency” level; increase the number of Listahanan (formerly National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction) identified poor families covered by two national social welfare and development programs from 3.9 million to 5.2 million; and to increase the number of fully functioning Local Social Welfare and Development Offices in every province and region in the country by 2016.
