Does security and safety have something to do with inclusive growth?

Who says that inclusive growth does not include “genuine peace, security and safety”? Aren’t these components of good governance, leading the poor to benefit  from whatever economic gain the country or local government is reaping, and for them “not to be left behind”?

Attaining  lasting peace and ensuring national security forms part of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) key strategies and programs to attain inclusive growth. At the local level,  genuine peace, security and safety is part of the EAGLE WINGS development agenda of  Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon.

Both the national and the local governments believe that ensuring security and establishing peace in every Filipino community pave way for the poor to access equal opportunities for the improvement of their lives.

Tagum Cooperative too was well on its track of contributing to the pursuit of inclusive growth when  it donated on July 14, 150 pieces  of reflectorized vests for the Traffic Management Office (TMO) Tagum City to use.

Tagum Cooperative members of the Board of Directors led by Chairperson Norma Pereyras together with  General Manager Juris Perez turned over the reflectorized vests to Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon and Vice Mayor Geterito Gementiza in the presence of  the city government employees, local officials and visitors.

TC BOD Chairperson Pereyras viewed the donation as a fulfilment to  the seventh Cooperative Principle, “Concern for Community”  while  BOD Vice Chairperson Miriam Baloyo (chair of the Education  and Community Development Program) said the donation signifies the support of Tagum Cooperative to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) that the administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III advocates.

Tagum Cooperative also considered such donation as its adherence to coop social responsibilities particularly on upholding the rule of law and the delivery of public services deemed necessary for people’s welfare in the communities where it serves.

The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) emphasizes among cooperatives the need  for them to deliver services  and assistance to the community as part of their social responsibilities.

In his deep appreciation, Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon lauded Tagum Cooperative for its “sense of volunteerism” and for supporting his administration’s thrust of ensuring safety and security.

“Truly, Tagum Cooperative is a blessing to Tagum. I hope Tagum Cooperative will continue to inspire and challenge us.  We give our thanks for its concern to help us make Tagum more secure and peaceful,”  he said.

In officially sealing the Deed of Donation with Pereyras, Mayor Rellon vowed to take care of the TMO gadgets that Tagum Cooperative entrusted to the city government.

The Deed of Donation signing done at the City Mayors Office was witnessed by Tagum Cooperative directors Miriam Baloyo, Fe  Adlawan, Nenita Malbas, Edgardo Silagan, Albert Omega and Tagum Cooperative General Manager Juris Perez.(PIA 11/Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)
