DavSur LGU kicks off tricycle loan project

DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, July 14 (PIA) – Tricycle drivers in Davao del Sur will now have a chance to eventually own tricycle units through the Provincial Tricycle Loan Project.

Governor Claude Bautista recently launched the project with the release of 15 tricycles for the first batch of recipients from the municipalities of Bansalan, Matanao and Sta. Cruz.

"I believe in my heart that livelihood is the best way to address the needs of every individual or family in the community, that they have a ready food on the table," Bautista stated during the launching at the capitol gym.

Under the loan program, a beneficiary has to pay for the unit in the amount of Php 88.00 daily with added amount of Php 20.00 for the savings deposit of the tricycle owners for the repair and maintenance of their units.

The cost per tricycle unit is Php109,885.75, and is payable in four (4) years.

The governor emphasized that providing livelihood is the most valuable assistance any local government unit could extend “because it is the family who would surely benefit from it as it can be owned legitimately through its loan program.”

He told the beneficiaries that instead of renting a tricycle for Php 120-150 daily with no chance at all to own it, availing through this loan program is much better since they will own it eventually.

Mayors Edwin Reyes, Vicente Fernandez and Joel Ray Lopez were thankful to the governor for choosing their municipalities as the first batch of LGU-beneficiaries to avail of the tricycle loan program.

There would still be more tricycles to be released in a number of 50-100 units in the coming days, Gov. Bautista said.

The provincial government and the mayors of Bansalan, Matanao and Sta. Cruz sealed a Memorandum of Agreement for the implementation of the loan project which would be under the close supervision of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.

The MOA was inked in the presence of provincial administrator Lorna Bautista-Bandigan and the provincial board members as witnessed by the capitol employees.

During the launching of the project, Gov. Bautista also handed over cash incentives to the officers of the provincial Philippine National Police, Regional Public Safety Battalion and the Provincial Public Safety Command for their exemplary performance, placing the entire province into a generally peaceful level during the celebration of the 47th Araw ng Davao del Sur.
