Davao del Norte, July 16 (PIA) – Due to the rampant cases of abuse in the barangays, the City Government of Panabo, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), conducted education campaign on the trending social issues affecting in the barangays of the city.
The Panabo CSWDO brought a caravan of education materials to address significant social issues concerning women and children in the barangays.
In an interview, Carlyn Quieta, program coordinator for child welfare and protection and early childhood care and development, said that the activity aimed to educate the residents in the barangay on protecting themselves against violence, especially for women and children.
The caravan kicked off yesterday (July 15) in Barangay Mabunao with separate sessions for the high school students and parents.
The topics discussed were Anti Bullying Act, child trafficking, child abuse, early teen pregnancy, parent-child relationship, youth and welfare code and violence against women and children (VAWC).
Aside from Quieta, the speakers included Melvina Domingo, section head of the child, women, family and community program; Diane Lamintac, program coordinator for family and community program; PSI Meliton Sango; and PO1 Carmel Angeline Bintacan.
Quieta disclosed that the topic early teen pregnancy was included as cases of graduates with baby bumps were alarming in high schools in rural barangays.
She also said that their team will visit the other 39 barangays of the city in a once a week schedule.
Quieta also revealed that the activity also prepared the community in the reactivation of the Anti-VAWC and Child Abuse Desk per barangay, which they targeted to be done this year. (PIA 11, Michael Uy)
