KAPALONG, Davao del Norte, July 21--- Mayor Edgardo L. Timbol of this town has convened the Araw ng Kapalong celebration steering committee as early as June to plan for the activities for the commemoration of the founding anniversary of the municipality.
Then President of the Philippines, Elpedio R. Qurino declared Kapalong a distinct town thru Executive Order No.151 on August 1, 1948.
"KAbilin atong ampingan, PAsig-uli sa kinaiyahan atong gamhan, alang sa maLONGtarong kalambuan"
( Taking care of our heritage, return to nature we nurture for our long-term progress) is this year’s
celebration theme which enjoins all Kapalongians to work hand in hand with the local government in its endeavour of preservingcultural heritage and in taking care of the environment.
An ecumenical service will be initiated by the Kapalong Ministerial Fellowship on July 25 as opening activity of the weeklong celebration. Various sports activities were lined-up which include the open invitational football tournament, billiard, taekwondo, inter school basketball, sepak takraw, and volleyball.
Other activities involving the participation of other sectors were also considered such as the variety show of the PROGLAD Kapalong Chapter, the Multi Sectoral Cultural Night, Hugyaw Sayaw sa MUSA Festivalfor the elementary and high schools and other events that would eventually make the event more festive and significant.
The Municipal Tourism Council will also initiate the annual cross county mountain bike aside from its run for a cause event.
In recognition of the role of the indigenous people in shaping Kapalong to what it is today, a tribal ritual which is done a day before the anniversary day will also be staged on July 31.
Honorable Governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario is the anniversary program’s honored keynote speaker as unanimously chosen by the executive committee.(MIO Kapalong)
