(Weather Update): Warm, humid weather continues with chances of isolated thunderstorms

Most parts of the country will continue to experience warm and humid weather with chances of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening in the next three days, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said a ridge of high-pressure area (HPA), which is associated with clear skies, is affecting Northern and Central Luzon.

The HPA, which is the opposite of the low-pressure area (LPA), is associated with light winds, less rainclouds, and drier air.

Aurelio said that until Wednesday (June 17), most parts of the country, including Metro Manila, will have sunny to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

The presence of HPA will bring high temperatures and good weather condition in the coming days as the state weather bureau advised people to wear lightweight and light-colored clothing, and drink plenty of water.

Aurelio said residents of places directly hit by the heat of the sun, without trees, and surrounded by concrete roads would feel much hotter.

For Sunday (June 14) weather forecast, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening will prevail over the entire archipelago.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the east to southeast will prevail throughout the archipelago and its coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Highest temperature in Metro Manila on Saturday was at 34.7 degrees Celsius recorded at around 3 p.m. at the Science Garden in Quezon City.

Temperature on Sunday in Metro Manila will range from 25-34 degrees Celsius while the heat index will be 28-37 degrees Celsius.

The heat index is the human discomfort index that gives the "apparent" temperature or what people perceive or feel as the temperature affecting their body. High air temperatures and high relative humidity will give high apparent temperatures or indices.

Full exposure to sunshine can increase the heat index by 9 degrees Celsius. (PNA)
