Kapalong celebrates 117th Philippine Independence



KAPALONG, Davao del Norte, June 12, 2015 - Kapalong Philippine National Police headed by Chief of Police Carl Omar Fiel, together with Municipal Mayor Edgardo L. Timbol and Vice Mayor Ma. Theresa R. Timbol, spearheaded the celebration of the 117th Philippine Independence Day at Kapalong Municipal Hall this morning.

This year's theme “Kalayaan 2015: Tagumpay sa Pagbabagong Nasimulan, Abot Kamay na ng Bayan” gives emphasis on the continuing fight to achieve genuine peace for our country. It also highlighted the involvement of filipino women in achieving freedom for our people and our country since then. Women who give their best for the good and welfare of the filipino people.

 Vice Mayor Ma. theresa R. Timbol in her opening remarks said that if we will look back in the past, we will remember the sacrifices that our heroes have done for our people and for our country. They fought against foreign invaders who wanted to enslave us. But at present, we are facing a different opponent, an opponent who emerged from within us, our brothers who have different beliefs and understanding on government system. "Let us do our part and convince them to go back to our government. Living a peaceful life is worth everything!" vice mayor said ending her message with a challenge.

 Kapalong Chief of Police Carl Omar Fiel, gives tribute to the filipino women who contributed much to philippine independence. He made mentioned of them including Nazaria Lagos who is known being the Mother of Philippine Red Cross because of her contribution to the revolution in her time. And Melchora Aquino also known as Tandang Sora who is familiar to us as maker of our first Philippine Flag. “What is life without women? We can never achieve independence without them. So, I am so thankful for those women who give their best to make Kapalong a successful town.” COP Fiel said with pride.

 SB member Rebecca O. Balinggao also gave an inspiring message to the crowd. She stresses the impact of women’s leadership to the community, that a woman can also be a hero in her own way.

“Women are masters of multi-tasking! They can do incredible things as you expected less.” the honorable said. She also gave praises to the men in uniform for their heroic act as keeper of peace in the community before she ended her message.

 After the program, the people marched to the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal at the Kapalong Town Square for the wreath laying and offering of flowers. It was highlighted with the releasing of balloons and PNP’s 21-gun salute. (Kapalong MIO)
