DAVAO CITY, June 15 (PIA) Kidney specialist Dr. Franklin
Guillano urged residents with diabetes and hypertension to undergo annual urine
test to check the health of their kidneys.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Kapehan sa SM in line with the
World Kidney month celebration, he said that persons with diabetes and
hypertension and those taking pain killers must be guided properly by their
doctors to determine the impact of their medicines to their kidneys.
Guillano underscored that kidney ailments do not have symptoms
until they reach stages four and five where the requirement will be either
dialysis or kidney transplant.
“Have at least one urinalysis once a year for your doctor to
determine effectively the situation of your kidneys,” he said.
He stressed that kidney transplant can now be performed locally
with 98 percent success rate.
Guillano said life-style-check and medical assessment are
important to ensure one’s health.
He also discouraged residents from taking herbal and
over-the- counter-medicines without respective prior research and doctor’s
advice.
Guillano said dialysis and kidney-transplantation as forms
of treatment have been accepted by people who believe that these medical
approaches can extend their lives. (PIA 11-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
