City Government rewards informant of the P9 million worth of shabu seized in Tagum City

Following the successful operation led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), in cooperation with the Tagum City Police, which resulted in the seizure of the illegal substance on the night of June 5, 2015, the confidential informant who was escorted by PDEA XI Deputy Regional Director Joel B. Plaza, personally appeared at the City Mayor’s Office, to receive an undisclosed amount as reward from Hon. Allan L. Rellon on June 10, 2015 during the Media Talk with the Mayor at Mayor’s conference room.

The 1kilo shabu worth P9 million, couriered by Ferdinand Jose T. Camacho and Oder Saipuding, was allegedly from Marawi City and transported through the provinces of Agusan before it was intercepted by the combined forces of PDEA and Tagum City Police near the Tagum City Overland Transport Integrated Terminal.

The PDEA has identified Tagum City as a strategic trans-shipment point for illegal drug users, although there is no evidence of manufacturing activities.

“The mayor is very supportive and pledged for logistical support” said City Prosecutor Noel Palma who further stated that Tagum City comes second to Davao City in the number of drug cases filed, which is indicative of the collaborative effort of the local government, PDEA, Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcers, to work hard in curbing the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city.

Mayor Rellon encourages Tagumenyos to take part in the fight against illegal drugs by providing useful information like the gentleman he just rewarded. He further stated that as the Tagumenyos, especially the students, have become vulnerable, he will be reconstituting the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council to intensify the campaign on drug abuse prevention.
