Sibulan Porters Association receives new mountaineering equipment



STA. CRUZ, Davao del Sur, June 16 (PIA) – The Sibulan Porters Association (SPA) has recently received a new set of mountaineering gears and equipment as part of the continuing effort to provide Mt. Apo porters with appropriate gears in climbing the country’s highest peak.

The USAID-BWISER (Biodiversity and Watershed Improved for Stronger Economy and Ecosystems Resilience) provided the assistance last June 10.

The SPA also received similar grant in 2013 from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region XI as its prime enterprise development activities that eventually provided alternative livelihood opportunity to its growing number of membership.

The new equipment and supplies are the following: one camping tent, three backpacks, one tent liner, six sleeping bags, six power zoom headlamps, one camping lantern, one camping stove, one cooking set, one first aid kit, 12 batteries and 12 butanes. (CDIO-Sta. Cruz/Julius R. Paner)
