DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, June 18 (PIA) –
More than 3,000 residents in the province mostly mothers, pregnant women and
senior citizens have benefited from the various health services offered during
the High Impact Five caravan of the Department of Health Region XI.
The stakeholders from the towns of Hagonoy and
Magsaysay and Digos City trooped on Wednesday (June 17) to the gymnasium beside
the city hall of Digos to avail of the Hi5 caravan services focused on maternal
health care.
Among the services provided include pre
natal care, ultrasound services, breast exams, basic laboratory tests, dental
services, family planning counseling, and lectures on maternal health care.
The senior citizens availed of the eye
screening and pneumococcal vaccination. Also provided for free was the digital
exam for the male parts.
DOH-XI assistant regional director Dr.
Annabelle Yumang said the caravan was part of the advocacy efforts to raise
awareness about the Hi5 strategies centered on providing services aimed at
reducing maternal mortality, infant and child deaths, stopping HIV/AIDS cases
and establishing service delivery network.
Yumang said the event was intended to
inform the Davao del Sur residents that the maternal health services offered
during the caravan are already available in their respective municipality.
The province was chosen as the first
stop of the DOH-XI caravan series this year given the need of improvements in
its maternal health care program.
DOH Davao del Sur Provincial officer Dr.
Anthony Araneta lamented that maternal mortality rate is not favorable for the
province, and that its achievement rate on having skilled birth delivery
workers is low.
Araneta said that aside from elaborating
on the Hi5 strategies, DOH is also pushing its advocacy endeavor urging the
local government units to make an ordinance prohibiting birth deliveries at
home and enticing pregnant mothers to deliver at accredited facilities with
professional health workers.
“This is to ensure that no mothers die
in childbirth,” he stated, adding that DOH-XI has conceptualized Team D Champs
with the battlecry “Walang Nanay at Sanggol ang Mamamatay Dahil sa
Panganganak.”
Dr. Lady Jedfeliz Molleno, DOH-XI
coordinator of the Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health and Nutrition (MNCHN)
program, bared that there were seven maternal deaths reported last year in
Davao del Sur with the highest (6 deaths) from Malita and one from Digos City.
Molleno said that DOH-XI is emphasizing
on quality maternal services which include pre natal check up, basic laboratory
tests, and ultrasound services.
She said that health personnel in
municipalities with no ultrasound services will be trained on the basics of
handling ultrasound equipment in August this year.
The municipalities of Hagonoy and
Magsaysay are among those with no ultrasound services as of the moment, Molleno
added.
Said towns along with Digos City are
also the pilot areas for the Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty Program
(ASSAP). (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
DTI: Toyota issues Special Service
Campaign for Toyota Front Passenger Airbag
DAVAO CITY, June 18 – The Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation
(TMPC) has issued a special service campaign for Toyota Front Passenger Airbag.
Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, TMPC’s First
Vice President for Government and Industry Affairs of its
Corporate Affairs Group, said that these
particular Toyota Front Passenger Airbags of Toyota Corolla Altis were produced
from May 2001 until March 2007 and Toyota Yaris were produced from
September 2006 to March 2007.
The statement was issued in a letter to
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary for Consumer Protection
Group Victorio Mario A. Dimagiba dated 26 May 2015.
Gutierrez said that the special service
campaign covers 13,228 units of Toyota Corolla Altis and additional 358 units
of Toyota Yaris officially sold in the Philippines.
The Front Passenger Side Airbag
inflators may have been assembled with improperly manufactured propellant
wafers and could trigger the inflator to rupture which may cause the front
passenger airbag to deploy abnormally in the event of a crash.
“As a preventive measure, Toyota will
replace the Front Passenger Side Airbag Inflator Module Assembly with a new
one, at NO COST to our customers,” Gutierrez stated.
TMPC has committed to contact the
affected customers through notification letters and invite them to bring their
vehicles to authorized Toyota dealers for vehicle servicing.
Meanwhile, DTI-Davao Region
Officer-in-Charge Maria Belenda Q. Ambi said Dabawenyos who bought a Toyota
Corolla Altis or a Toyota Yaris produced during said period may also contact
the nearest DTI office should they have clarifications or some other concerns
relative to this advisory.
In Davao City, DTI office is located at
2F Mintrade Realty Building, Monteverde Avenue corner Sales Street. They can be
reached at (082) 224-0511. (DTI11/NCL/jmm)
