Valley Province, June 29, 2015--- The Provincial Health Office (PHO) in
partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) celebrates the National Kidney
Month with the theme “Batong Inaalagaan, Habang Buhay Nating Kayamanan” and 2nd
Year Enactment of the Provincial Ordinance No. 19 series of 2013 or the
“Smoke-Free Ordinance of Compostela Valley Province” on June 23, 2015 at
Provincial Capitol.
The
observance started with a motorcade from the provincial capitol going to
Poblacion, Nabunturan with participants coming from the Local Government Units
(LGUs), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP),
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Jail and Management Protection
(BJMP), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC), Compostela Valley
Provincial Hospital (CVPH) personnel, Dep-Ed Nurses, Healthy Lifestyle Focal
persons and the PHO staff.
Christine
Joy Raquid, MD - Internal Medicine, discussed about the Renal Diseases
Prevention and Control on how to prevent from kidney failure.
Raquid
shares various ways on how to protect our kidney by drinking water, keep blood
sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol in control, and also by losing weight if
needed. Eating healthy meals, taking all medicines as prescribed, getting
regular exercise as well as avoid smoking and limiting alcohol
intake, among others, to help maintain good kidney function.
Meanwhile,
Ms. Ruvilyn Jumalon-Marketing Assistant of PHIC discussed about the PHIC
package on Renal Diseases Controlled Program (REDCOP) about their benefits on
availing the insurance, rules in availment of Hemodialysis, Eligibility
Requirements to avail the services, and also for the Peritoneal Dialysis.
During
the program, a ceremonial destruction of cigarette was done by the participants
of the different agencies by destroying the big replica of a cigarette stick
signifying their support to the “No Smoking” or the Smoke-Free Ordinance.
In
the afternoon, the PHO conducts a Free Urinalysis test for the employees of the
