ComVal holds Senior Citizens’, Peacekeepers’ Day

COMPOSTELA VALLEY, March 04---Nearly 2,500 purok leaders and senior citizens gathered for the Senior Citizens’ and Peace Keepers’ Day during the 17th Founding Anniversary and 8th Bulawan Festival celebration at the Capitol Grounds, Cabidianan, Nabunturan, ComVal.

Gracing the event was Chief Operations Officer Mark Lapid of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) who was impressed by Compostela Valley’s resilience and unity in getting back on its feet.

“WalapoakongdudanaangCompostela Valley ay aangat at magniningningngayon at samgadarating pang panahon,” said Lapid.

Pointing on the province’s potential for eco-tourism, Lapid revealed that the Department of Tourism (DOT) together with TIEZA is working on several projects for ComVal which include the development of Camp Manuel T. Yan Military Eco-tourism Park in Mawab which will start this year.

Gov. Arturo T. Uy, on the other hand, recalled the wrath of Super Typhoon Pablo in the province and assured everyone that the provincial government will leave no one behind in its efforts towards total recovery.

“We are beginning to rise,” said Governor Uy adding that the purok leaders’ role in the province’s recovery is crucial as they are the direct persons who could help not only in maintaining peace and order in their communities but also in mobilizing its constituents to participate in the province’s programs.
Cong. Maricar Zamora, moreover, assured senior citizens that they will continue to receive their benefits which include their monthly PhP500 allowance and free PhilHealth insurance.

Governor Uy also announced that starting this year, all barangay functionaries which include Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers, and Day Care Workers will also receive free PhilHealth Insurance from the national government. Governor Uy revealed funds for this program will be taken from the “sin” tax.

On the same day, the peace keepers were able to receive their honorarium from the provincial government amounting to PhP1,500 while in the afternoon, the senior citizens participated in the amazing race and Oldies Got Talent Competition. (James Labrigas/IDS Comval)
